Throw Those Food Boxes!

Now for clarification purposes, I'm not referring to the Mac & Cheese boxes, nor any other box where you dump its contents to cook or eat. No, Sirree. This morning, I opened our breakfast cabinet. You know, the one that houses cereals, Pop-tarts, bread, peanut butter, coffee, etc. At first glance, I'm thinking, "Okay, why is this box of muffins in my way of viewing?". And upon further discovery, of the 4 packages provided in this box, 3 were left. Thank you, Entenmann's, for fitting these wonderful muffins our kiddos so love into a box that doesn't squish them! However, why do we keep a ginormous box in our cupboard to block so many of our items?

CAN YOU SEE WHAT'S BEHIND ME?

By removing the remaining items (so I can guesstimate a run to the store to buy more), you can see how much FREE space this gives us!  AMAZING. It was as easy as taking the items out of the container and recycling the box.

If this is something you want to start doing in your home, make it a habit while putting away your groceries.

To recap:

Reasons to toss those boxes?

  • Boxes take up space
  • We cannot see what we have behind them
  • Leads us to buy an item we don't need (because we already it...hidden)
  • Food goes bad (we couldn't see we had it, and now it's a Science experiment)

So, the next time you open a cupboard, think: What's blocking my view and can this be re-arranged now to meet my family's need?

Here's another before and after shot...
